Shenmue I & II release date announced

Shenmue I & II HD will arrive on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on August 21, 2018.

Yesterday, it seemed that Microsoft may have leaked the Shenmue I & II release date a little early. We have included a screenshot of the listing below, just in case the page is later taken down.

Interestingly, however, the tweet also contained a supposed release date for Ryo to come roundhouse-kicking back into your life, with the classic titles apparently launching on August 20. If it were December 31st 2018 there would be more reason to be sceptical, but this looks suspiciously legit.

The cult martial arts and forklift meme-generating adventure games will include modern control options, the chance to play the original game with Japanese dialogue, and scalable screen resolution.

Thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign, designer Yu Suzuki's finally getting to complete his sandbox adventure epic, with Shenmue III now due for release in 2019.

On its first release nearly 20 years ago, Shenmue was among the most expensive games ever developed, with its production reckoned to cost as much as $70 million. Shenmue I & II is set within engrossing real-time open worlds that feel truly alive thanks to day-to-night cycles and weather changes, with a population of civilians who follow their own schedules.
