New Joker Origin Movie Starring Joaquin Phoenix Is Officially Happening

Warner Bros. confirmed the news with The Hollywood Reporter, revealing that shooting will start as early as September with a rumoured budget of around $55 million - not a huge amount by blockbuster standards.

Phillips has described the film as "exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale".

According to THR, Warner Bros.is still developing another Joker project starring Leto.

Joaquin Phoenix is officially playing the Clown Prince in the Joker Origin Movie, and, thanks to some new fan art, we have an idea of what that might look like.

Phoenix, 43, has previously said he wasn't against taking on the role of the Joker after reports named him as the next actor to personify the sinister comic character.

"I think that genre, comic books, kind of lends itself to having different people play the same character and interpret it in a different way", he told Collider.

Todd Phillips is directing with a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver.

There is no release date set for the Joker film, with a possible target being around late 2019; until then, I'll be coping with the news by writing the word "damaged" on my forehead with permanent marker.

Jared Leto, however, will be reprising his role as The Joker in the sequel for Suicide Squad and a movie on The Joker and Harley Quinn.
