Netflix Is Testing A New "Ultra" Plan And Here's What That Means

Netflix Is Testing A New

In the U.S., Netflix has a premium plan that costs $13.99 per month and gives people 4K Ultra HD video on four screens at once, according to USA Today. The new tier will offer the same quality and features as Netflix's Premium tier which, at $13.99, was the highest tier available.

Netflix has announced plans to test out yet another price tier. A spokesperson said: "We are testing slightly different price points and features to understand how consumers value Netflix". "In the second offer, both Premium and Ultra customers would have access to four concurrent Ultra HD streams but only Ultra customers would have access to high dynamic range (HDR) content, which provides more vibrant color reproduction and higher contrast". However the company will need to ensure it doesn't experience the kind of consumer backlash it felt in 2011, when it split its streaming service from its traditional disc service.

It's called the "Netflix Ultra". Maybe, this is why they have restricted the test of the new Ultra subscription to a few selected group countries in Europe.

The purported new Ultra subscription would cost $17 per month, up from the $14 per month that the current Premium plan offers, but knocks HDR away from Premium and leaves it to Ultra. Maybe not by itself, but based on some of the promotional materials in Italty, Netflix may reduce the number of screens on which you can stream under the Premium plan from four to two.

TuttoAndroid originally reported on the new plans.

Shows like "Luke Cage" and "Glow" are available in HDR. During the fourth quarter of 2017, Netflix posted their highest customer growth yet, adding 8.3 million new subscribers. In 2013, the company first introduced a four-screen option as a more expensive alternative to their existing two-screen plans.

The company now has three subscription plans: $7.99 Basic, $10.99 Standard, and $13.99 Premium.

Now on to the "Ultra" high-end streaming plan.
