Listeria fears: Greenyard investigates "root cause", as United Kingdom supermarkets recall frozen vegetables

Listeria fears: Greenyard investigates

On 29 June 2018, the Hungarian Food Chain Safety Office banned the marketing of all frozen vegetable and frozen mixed vegetable products produced by the affected plant between August 2016 and June 2018, and ordered their immediate withdrawal and recall.

When you're cooking up a storm and you still have to put the pot of rice on the stove, it can be a bit of an effort.

"The mix is uncooked and frozen so requires cooking before consumption".

The Countdown spokeswoman said the Bell Farms' steamed vegetable mix was being recalled by Belgium company Greenyard Frozen BelgiumV, where it may have been packaged.

While listeriosis can be a nasty bacteria that leads to illness, it is also a preventable evil.

The outbreak is extremely serious, with nine suspected deaths from listeria bacteria in frozen vegetables reported so far across Europe.

According to Business Insider, this is the only Woolworths product believed to be affected.

Frozen sweetcorn and possibly other frozen vegetables are believed to be the cause of the outbreak, the European Food Safety Authority reportedly said.

"We're asking customers who have bought these products not to consume them, and to return them to their nearest Sainsbury's store where they will receive a full refund".

Over 200 people, including 80 babies, died in South Africa since a Listeria outbreak was confirmed.

Listeria is a bacteria, fully named listeria monocytogenes, which causes an illness named listeriosis.

Listeria can cause a life threatening infection, with symptoms similar to the flu including a high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.

The products being recalled originate in Belgium and Hungry.

Carstensen says the product has been tested and found to be compliant.

"The products affected contain a particularly risky strain of listeria and are being recalled as a precautionary measure to ensure consumers are protected, but particularly vulnerable populations", May said.
