IHOP admits to faking IHOb name change for publicity

IHOP admits to faking IHOb name change for publicity

Less than a month ago, IHOP revealed the flip flop to IHOb and instantly lit up social media.

IHOP is flipping back to pancakes, ending a stunt that temporarily changed the chain's name to IHOB to promote new burgers on the menu.

The pancake giant is offering short stacks for 60 cents on July 17, 2018 from 7am to 7pm nationwide.

The tweet from "IHOP" also poked fun of itself for changing to "IHOB", saying "That's right, IHOP! We'd never turn our back on pancakes (except for that time we faked it to promote our new burgers)". The pancake chain began revamping its burgers more than a year ago, IHOP's president, Darren Rebelez, told Business Insider, as it has tried to boost sales outside breakfast.

The change drew massive backlash on social media with some calling the move an "epic failure". Hopefully no one got too attached to the alternative "IHOb" name in the process.

Pancakes and burgers coexist in harmony. The internet was outraged at the move, either because of IHOP betraying its initial goal as a pancake emporium or that it was just some kind of elaborate marketing scheme.
