Gerrard signs Sodiq on a season long loan for Rangers from Roma

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has said that his players must be able to handle pressure if they are to succeed at the club.

Also, the Ibrox side hope to wrap a loan deal for Nigerian striker Sadiq Umar - who has been left of AS Roma's preseason plans - before Thursday.

Rangers have completed the season-long loan signing of Mali worldwide Lassana Coulibaly from French side Angers.

The 21-year-old has had spells at Bologna, Torino and NAC Breda in recent years and will leave the Stadio Olimpico on a temporary basis once again to join the Light Blues' attack this term. Coulibaly told Rangers TV.

"When my agent told me Steven Gerrard is the head coach, I said, OK "no problem" and I was happy to come and join this team".

The fans already seem to have given him an interesting nickname but I'll let you discover that for yourselves, I couldn't possible repeat the intimation here! I don't watch the league, but I know about Celtic and Rangers in Scotland.

Both players could make their debut in Thursday's Europa League opener against Macedonian outfit Shkupi - midnight on Wednesday is the deadline.

Gerrard remains in the market for further reinforcements this summer and a move for Mali global midfielder Lassana Coulibaly is still ongoing at present.

Allan McGregor, Jon Flanagan, Scott Arfield, Jamie Murphy, Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic and Ovie Ejaria all joined earlier in the window.

"I spoke to him when I was in Mali and he asked me if I wanted to join his team, and I said yes, although I was anxious it wasn't actually Gerrard [on the phone]!"

Coulibaly may be followed through the entrance at Ibrox very soon with the club said to be confident of securing a season-long loan move for Roma forward Umar Sadiq.
