Caribbean American legislator arrested for protesting Trump Supreme Court nominee

Capital Correspondent Karen Dewitt reports that Governor Andrew Cuomo is urging state legislators to return to Albany and make Roe v. Wade New York State Law.

The landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade is in the spotlight again with President Trump's nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to fill the vacancy created by Justice Anthony Kennedy's retirement. He's pushing for the passage of the Reproductive Health Act, which shifts language for abortions from the state's penal code to the public health law, changes abortion's status as an exception to homicide and allows abortions in the third trimester of a pregnancy under certain circumstances.

Fears that Brett Kavanaugh would overturn Roe v. Wade if confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court aren't valid, Sen. He's a clod. But in an indigo blue state, when your daddy was a popular governor, the right grunts and whistles are all you need to win. Any women choosing to have an abortion should be able to obtain the means to travel to those states that choose to allow them and to have the procedure done in a hospital where they can not be easily distinguished from other patients seeking other procedures and bullied into submission to the will of others. He's going to have all he can handle to handle current cases that come before the court.

"If our experience around the world has taught us anything, it's that overturning Roe is just the beginning to ending abortion in America", said Jor-El Godsey, president of Heartbeat International. It's been decided by the Supreme Court.

Kavanaugh, left, President Trump's nominee for the Supreme Court, and Vice President Pence at the Capitol on Tuesday. As of now, 17 states have laws that will ban or greatly restrict abortion the minute Roe is overturned.

Cuomo also backs a measure, known as the Reproductive Health Act, or RHA, which would codify the rights in the Roe v. Wade case into NY law.

"It's not a question of if, it's a question of what or when", says Sarah Lipton-Lubet, vice president for reproductive health and rights at the National Partnership for Women and Families. Cuomo naturally wants abortion removed entirely from the Penal Code if possible, which would presumably make the dream of abortion on demand up to the moment of crowning a reality. "I am pro-life in terms of legislation that passes through the House, but I do think the Supreme Court has settled that issue generationally". "The things to be anxious about are the future cases. that's where a Justice Kavanaugh, if confirmed, can make a difference", said Fitzpatrick.

Although a number of recent polls indicate that Americans support Roe v. Wade, other polls indicate that Americans do not know much about the decision.

And so he taught me that law professor taught me how to do a class action for all women who were or might become pregnant and want the option of abortion. That would be binding precedent of the court.

"Look, I think there's always more everyone can do, but he's definitely been a champion and spoken up for our issues", Chappelle Golston said.
