Royals join Queen at birthday parade

Charanpreet Singh Lall, 22, was among more than 1,000 soldiers who participated in the ceremony attended by the Queen and members of the royal family, including the newly married Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Charles and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Meghan's remarkable confidence at the event reminds us of when Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge's made her Trooping of the Colour debut less than two months after her April 2011 nuptials to Prince William.

The event was attended by other senior royals including the Queen, Prince Charles and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. See PA story ROYAL Wedding. Meghan Markle appeared for the first time with husband Prince Harry, to Kate's left.

He retired from public duties past year and will celebrate his 97th birthday tomorrow.

The Queen looked on as the celebrations for her birthday took place on the Mall in central London.

Lall, from Leicester, who came to the United Kingdom from India as a boy, said: "Being the first turban-wearing Sikh to troop the colour and be part of the escort is a high honour".

Not even habitual scene-stealers, Prince George, nearly 5, and Princess Charlotte, 3, could take our eyes away from the American beauty.

After arriving at the palace, the royals assembled on the Buckingham Palace balcony to watch a fly-by by the Royal Air Force. She is due to join Queen Elizabeth in Cheshire for her first solo appearance alongside the Queen on Thursday.

Queen Elizabeth opted for a blue sky blue coat and dress by designer Stewart Parvin and a hat by Angela Kelly while Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, wore a pale blue dress by Bruce Oldfield and Hat by Philip Treacy.

Taking to Twitter, the Duchess wrote: "Very proud of The Duke Of York Colonel of the Grenadier Guards". That Meghan is undertaking such a trip less than a month after marriage says a lot about how the family wants to make sure she's comfortable in her duties, and that the world knows that she is now an important full-time royal.
