NDP asks Ontario integrity commissioner to probe allegations against unregistered lobbyist, minister

Ontario PC Leader Doug Ford speaks at a campaign event in Sault Ste.

Liberal Premier Kathleen Wynne says she knows she won't win next week's Ontario election. "People worry that the NDP will raise taxes on small businesses, that they will push job creation lower", the premier said in her remarks.

"Over the past year, I have met with 37 governors, I have met with senators, I've met with congresspeople, I've met with senior members of the USA administration, all in an attempt to make it clear what our integrated relationship means to workers on both sides of the border", said Wynne, who has been trailing behind her rivals in recent polls. "I don't think we can actually say that", Wynne said.

"You're not getting rid of me, I'm going to be campaigning really hard right through until that last vote is cast because those local fights are really, really important", she said.

With her party effectively tied with the Tories in most polls and the Liberals unlikely to form government, Ms. Horwath said that Ontarians still deserve an explanation of what happened.

"We say the same thing in every language", said Ford spokesperson Melissa Lantsman.

She also declined to endorse the Tories or NDP.

So, it comes down to this - voters are going to pick a new premier but they are generally anxious about giving that person - whether it's Doug Ford or the NDP - too much power.

People who told us they planned to vote for the NDP that year divided about half and half between the Liberals and Conservatives as their second choice; Conservative voters gave the Liberals their second choice by a two-to-one margin over the NDP, and Liberal voters gave their second choice to the PCs by about the same margin. "Andrea is the kind of leader we need and the NDP's plan will make Ontario a stronger province", said Warren.

Liberals say that now their focus is on trying to maintain official party status in the legislature, which requires at least eight seats.

When it came to accessing talent, the Liberals have promised $132 million over the next three years to creating more postsecondary STEM programming, while the NDP promises to create 27,000 new co-ops and internships and redistribute $57 million from the Jobs and Prosperity Fund for opportunities in trade.

While the federal government under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has done much of the heavy lifting to protect the industry in Canada, Wynne played up her own efforts. The Conservative party and Green Party had not commented on working with scale-ups at the time of the report's release.

It was just one day after the writ dropped that Kathleen Wynne made a campaign stop in Barrie.

One could have concluded the NDP had very little likelihood of success in that circumstance, but 13 years later, in 1990, they formed the government.
