Mercedes delay engine upgrade due to 'quality issue'

Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes team have postponed the planned introduction of a new upgraded engine at this weekend's (June 9/10) Canadian Grand Prix due to reliability concerns.

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen was 0.13 seconds slower, followed by Verstappen's Red Bull teammate and Monaco victor Daniel Ricciardo. If I'm on the seventh race at a hard circuit on the engine I want to see it through.

The seven-times world champion, who holds the record of 91 Grand Prix wins, will be on the minds of many as the former Ferrari driver continues to suffer from severe head injuries sustained in skiing accident in the French Alps in 2013.

"Naturally I am still here to win but as I said if they've got upgrades on their engines which can be a tenth to two tenths - Ferrari are particularly very strong on the straights, it will be interesting to see whether we're able to match them or not".

Then there's the four-hour epic in 2011 as, in wet/dry conditions, Button recovered from last place at one stage early on to pass Vettel's Red Bull on the last lap for the win.

Only Stoffel Vandoorne and Carlos Sainz, who crashed out of the session, posted fewer trips around the track.

This track is a little bit different. "It was waiting, waiting, waiting and eventually we got out".

Canadian Lance Stroll, in the other Williams, caught the Wall of Champions in the morning and punctured a tire.

Southern Ontario last hosted the Grand Prix in 1977, when Bowmanville Ontario's Mosport Park was the site for the F1 auto race.

The return to Canada will also mark what many hope will be a return to action with the high speed Montreal circuit offering the possibility of more drama and racing than the Monaco Grand Prix procession led from start to finish by Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo.

The racing division of the famous Italian auto company, Ferrari, was ridiculed online Tuesday after it tweeted about this weekend's upcoming Formula One race in Montreal using an image of downtown Toronto.

Stroll also took time to cast his mind back to 2017, commenting: "I had a great race here, first points in Formula 1 and I'm looking forward to this year".

"There's some tricks to the track, but it's a great track, there's a lot of over taking possibilities, so it is a good show."
