Key moments from the Trump-Kim summit

U.S. President Donald Trump brought some early '90s-era Hollywood pizzazz to his meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, by showing him a four-minute trailer video laying out the stakes of their historic summit.

President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed a statement Tuesday promoting "mutual confidence building" to "promote the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula".

Kim's commitment to denuclearize was included in a document signed after the first ever meeting between a sitting USA president and a North Korean leader. The U.S. has previously ruled out a halt in military exercises on the Korean peninsula as part of its military alliance with Seoul.

Meantime, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is also commenting - saying he supports Trump's efforts and looks forward to getting more details. "But right now it's too soon to do that", Trump told reporters after meeting Kim.

The US has long held the view that North Korea's illegitimate military activities can't be traded away for its right to do legitimate military activities. He's a amusing guy, he's very smart, he's a great negotiator.

Murphy said that while he supports meeting with Kim, ultimately the CT senator argued that the Trump administration went into the Singapore summit underprepared and ended up getting out-negotiated by the rogue nation.

This is not the first time Trump has made references to Kim's weight.

Images of Trump and Kim were prominent throughout the trailer, which promised a brighter future if North Korea opened its arms to Western influences by way of nuclear disarmament. In a statement, he said the Singapore declaration "will be regarded as a historic event that has helped break down the last remaining Cold War legacy on Earth ..." "I highly praise and appreciate President Trump for mentioning the issue of abduction (of Japanese by North Korea) to Kim, which is an important issue for Japan".

Other agreements that have been signed include the recovering of POW/MIA remains and their immediate repatriation, as well as a willingness to "build a lasting and stable peace regime on the Korean Peninsula". Will the world embrace this change?

A large contingent of Democrats criticized the president and his staff for tentatively granting a number of concessions to the North Koreans, including a pause on military exercises in South Korea and even meeting with Kim in the first place to lend his leadership legitimacy on the global stage.
