ER Doctor Mocks Patient With Anxiety Attacks In Viral Video, Gets Suspended

An emergency room doctor in California has been suspended after she was reportedly caught on camera berating a man who was suffering from an anxiety attack and claiming he couldn't breathe.

Now Beth Keegstra, 57, the contracted physician who tended to the 20-year-old last week at El Camino Hospital in Los Gatos, has been permanently taken out of the rotation of ER doctors at all of the health system's locations, per a release.

Bardwell's father Donald, who posted the video online, said his son has a history of anxiety attacks and he had not been taking the sedative leading up the Monday anxiety attack. Bardwell's father, Donald, added in another Facebook post that he believed his son was experiencing Benzodiazepine withdrawal due to not taking Klonopin.

Samuel Bardwell said he asked his father to videotape the confrontation after he saw Keegstra speaking to a security guard in the emergency room and eyeing him suspiciously.

When he tells her he can not inhale, she laughs in disbelief. She told the boy that he's the least sick patient in the room and that there were people dying there.

"This week, a patient who visited the emergency department at our Los Gatos campus had an interaction with a physician whose demeanor was unprofessional and not the standard we require of all who provide care through El Camino Hospital", the hospital said.

In a June 15 statement, El Camino Hospital said it has apologized to Mr. Bardwell and his family and that Dr. Keegstra "has been removed from the work schedule, pending further investigation".

Samuel's face was out of the shot, but it appeared that he tried to lift his head up, which prompted Keegstra to tell him, "There, so you picked your head up". She even tries to yank him up after he clearly states that he can not move. "He's obviously a doctor and he knows what he needs", she said, leaving the room.

Since Donald Bardwell uploaded the video to Facebook, the clip has been shared over 106,000 times and been viewed by more than 4.2 million people.

"I came in here wanting to help you and you're changing your story around", she says.

"That's not what I said", Bardwell responded under his breath.

"She never first came in and introduced herself", Bardwell's father said.

'You want us to wheel you to your house in a gurney?' Keegstra (left and right) is heard saying on the video.

"He can't inhale!" said Keegstra. "It was so agonizing pain it surprised me they were urging me to get up".

Following the incident, mercury news reported Dan Wood, the chief executive officer of El Camino Hospital, issuing a statement saying Dr. Keegstra, who has been a practicing physician for 31 years, being suspended from all facilities associated with the hospital.

Public corrective action was taken against Keegstra, ordering her to complete a professional boundaries course, among other things. "In my mind, I don't think she should be practicing medicine at all", he said.
