YouTube Music, a New Streaming Service, to Launch May 22

If you don't want ads, plus also want extra features, you've got YouTube Music Premium to subscribe to.

Not by coincidence, these are the countries where YouTube Red - a subscription service offering original programmes and videos - already exists. Graduating up is YouTube Music Premium, which for $9.99 a month offers background listening and downloads, without those pesky ads, a blog post explains.

Like Google's messaging focus, YouTube's efforts to spin out successful streaming and music products has felt confusing and haphazard.

The newly announced YouTube Premium will include ad-free, background and offline across all of YouTube, as well as access to all YouTube Originals including Cobra Kai, Step Up: High Water and Youth & Consequences. If you are a YouTube Red member, your service will automatically receive access at your current price.

Although YouTube Red isn't now available in the United Kingdom, the changes mean that the service is finally on its way here, alongside a host of other European countries including Ireland, France and Germany. For those confused, YouTube launched YouTube Music back in 2015 and what we're looking at is basically a brand new version of the service that YouTube is hoping will make it a competitive offering.

YouTube to launch music streaming service on 22 May

The new promotion upheld adaptation of YouTube Music will be accessible for free. YouTube premium also incorporates new YouTube music. The service will simply be called YouTube Music.

In reality though, it's likely to be the sheer breadth of music available on YouTube that will provide much of the appeal.

Google hopes the new service will be able to compete more effectively than Google Play Music did in a saturated market.

In a counterintuitive move, the music app from the world's biggest video service will be largely devoid of video. Now the company is simplifying and consolidating that play by decoupling the music and film components with the launch of a new service. Say hello to YouTube Music. The service includes "thousands of playlists, official versions of millions of songs, albums, artist radio and more" and "all the music videos people expect from YouTube". The new service will also offer users a wide-array of exclusive features.
