Official Stephon Clark Autopsy Differs From His Family's Private One

The Sacramento District Attorney released Stephon Clark's official autopsy results and it shows Clark was shot seven times by officers, not eight as stated in a private autopsy report, CBS Sacramento reports.

Clark, a father of two, was shot multiple times and killed by police in his grandparents' backyard while unarmed.

The Clark family had previously called on forensic pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu to conduct an independent autopsy of Clark following his shooting death on March 18.

Coroner Kimberly Gin said in a letter to police dated Friday that she brought five pathologists into the matter "in light of the erroneous information that was released from the private autopsy".

The official autopsy was conducted by Dr. Keng-Chin Su and reviewed by four other pathologists.

An autopsy commissioned by Clark's family found that Clark was shot eight times, with at least six shots in the back, contradicting police officers' account that Clark had approached them.

Reiber, looking at the county report, videos and photographs, also identified a number of other points where he said Omalu's conclusions were unsupported or "untenable".

He wrote that a frame-by-frame analysis of video from both officers' body-worn cameras shows Clark facing the officers while helicopter footage shows him "walking ... toward the officers' position".

Omalu on Tuesday questioned Gin's use of an outside doctor to prove him wrong.

"I find it extremely unusual that an outside doctor is reviewing an autopsy report and is coming out to state [I] am wrong", Omalu said.

"A doctor can not say another doctor is wrong. All you can say is, I don't agree with the opinion of that doctor".

A toxicology report released by police said Clark had traces of nicotine, cannabis and hydrocodone in his system. "The facts of the case did not change".

"The police officers used excessive force", Berry Accius told the member station.

The Sacramento County autopsy was performed by Dr. Kenny Su. It demonstrates that the rushed and unvetted report by Dr. Omalu was inaccurate.

The death of Clark has prompted a national discussion on police violence. Protesters at times blocked fans from attending professional basketball games and disrupted rush hour traffic downtown in the state capital and on a nearby interstate.

Stevante Clark since has been arrested on charges of making threats and sought help for mental issues.

Omalu's report said Clark received no entry wounds from the front of his body.

Benjamin Crump, a spokesman for the family's attorney, did not immediately comment. Those results are considered irrelevant to the ongoing investigation of Clark's death. "We remain focused on working with the community and the police department to reexamine police training, protocols and procedures in an effort to avoid such tragedies in the future".
