Neymar named in Brazil's 23-man World Cup squad

With exactly a month to go for the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, five-time champions Brazil have finalized their squad for the tournament.

With Dani Alves ruled out of the World Cup, Fagner is odds on to feature at right-back.

Neymar of course, has not been in action since fracturing his foot in February and is touch and go for the World Cup in Russian Federation, which is less than a month away.

The former Corinthians boss revealed he is yet to decide who will start in central defence, with one of Thiago Silva, Miranda and Marquinhos expected to be relegated to the bench. "But Roberto Firmino will fight for that position in top form", Tite said.

The Premier League is also the best-represented division in the squad as the additions of Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino and Chelsea winger Willian bring its count to six. "The challenge is open on the right back, but Danilo has some advantage now because he has performed well recently". Tite said he needs "a pacemaker" in the team, which he has not received from Beijing Guoan's Renato Augusto.

"Brazil are one of the favorites because of the football we have played, our consistency, our aggressiveness, our goals and our quick transitional play", he said. "Sometimes preparation gives you elements that you didn't have, and force you to change your mind".

There are only four survivors from the 7-1 hammering by Gerrmany four years ago at the home World Cup: Marcelo, Fernandinho, Paulinho and Willian.

PSG were next, with Neymar and defenders Marquinhos and Thiago Silva all likely to play key roles in Russian Federation.

Brazil are in Group E with Costa Rica, Serbia and Switzerland, and play their first match on Sunday, 17 June.
