Workers scatter when crane collapses at construction site

PETERSBURG — A crane carrying a load at the construction site of the new police headquarters toppled over Thursday morning, sending workers scattering and narrowly missing one as it landed.

Police said no one was injured in the incident and no damage was done to the site.

The failure of the crane shipped structure workers running for their lives in a Florida metropolis on Thursday, nearly striking a man as it sheds over. The crane barely missed crushing several workers, including one seen racing out of a dust cloud.

The tip of the crane arm landed just feet from one of the fleeing worker. A worker told the newspaper that a operator who was within the crane as it fell "limped away" later it dropped.

'It was a very unfortunate accident, ' said mayoral spokesman Ben Kirby.

The cause of the crane collapse is under investigation.

There were no immediate reports of injuries, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Authorities said that the crane experienced hurt.
