West Brom stuns United to hand City the title

The loss handed City the title, leaving United trailing by 16 points with five games remaining, and Mourinho immediately faced the question of whether he was confident his team could make a real challenge next year.

City's supporters are now discovering that winning the title without even playing, courtesy of West Bromwich Albion's unexpected 1-0 victory at Old Trafford on Sunday, does nothing to diminish the joy of planting your flag at the summit while the rest look on enviously below you.

Manchester City have won the league convincingly this season and their superiority has only served to highlight United's biggest weakness- their style of football.

Even Tinder got in on the act, tweeting: "Looks like we swiped right on a victor".

Mourinho claimed afterwards that he had not been happy after the City result because he knew they would win the league regardless and he accused some of his players of getting carried away. But what can not be argued against are the records that City have smashed on their way to the title this season.

The Catalan has now won three titles in three different countries after three La Liga triumphs in Spain with Barcelona and three Bundesliga crowns with Bayern Munich and admitted it was one of his best achievements. That's Liverpooling more than Liverpool have ever Liverpooled this season.

That is Mourinho's second season at Previous Trafford and he insisted that his spectacular managerial report - at Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Actual Madrid - should not be forgotten.

He has picked up four points from his opening two games in charge, and accepted that supporters might now start linking him with the job.

Mourinho suggested his players might have over-reacted to the win against City at the Etihad.

"They won the title because they were the best team, because they won a great amount of points and lost only two matches - that's why they were champions".

City's title is the 24th trophy of his glittering career.

They travelled to Tottenham on Saturday - an in-form Tottenham, unbeaten in the league since December - and tore them apart at Wembley.

When the pressure was really on, City delivered, but the same could not be said of their rivals.

West Brom caretaker boss Darren Moore isn't thinking about the fulltime job, despite their shock win at Manchester United.

Manchester United failed to keep the league competitive as a late header from Jay Rodriguez gave West Brom a hugely surprising three points and finally gave their fans something to cheer this season.
