Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium with 4K HDR display launched: Price, Specifications, features

The reference to "widespread ranging" is also a bit mysterious - does that mean that if you really want an Xperia XZ2 Premium in the United Kingdom that you'll be able to order one from, say, the Sony website?

The Xperia XZ2 Premium looks like a slightly larger version of its current Xperia XZ2. The company unveiled Sony Xperia XZ2 at MWC 2018 earlier this year and this new phone is the successor with few improvements. If there's one thing the company knows, it's how to make a great camera sensor: not for nothing do numerous big names in smartphones already use Sony hardware. Sony has been stressing on the ISO Sensitivity of 51200 for photos and ISO 12800 for videos, this feature will help users capture imagery in low light conditions.

The device also boasts S-Front front surround stereo speakers, which is termed as loudest Xperia speakers ever. On-board cameras have increasingly become a way for smartphone makers to distinguish their products, with flagships from Apple and Samsung sporting dual lenses and Google touting the computational smarts of the cameras on its latest Pixels. The Huawei P20 Pro - sadly still not yet confirmed for a United States release - has been wowing reviewers with its triple camera array, for example.

Sony was rumored to launch the Xperia XZ2 Premium at Mobile World Congress, but seemed to have delayed it. The former sensor captures contrast while the latter focuses on color accuracy. The dual rear cameras also feature new Aube fusion image signal processor that processes the details from both the sensors to give such high-sensitivity output. It supports 4K video recording and 960fps slow-motion video.

The camera appears to be a big focus with the Xperia XZ2 Premium, but it's not the only feature Sony's touting with its new phone. XZ2 Premium has 6GB RAM for additional speed and efficiency.

Sony also boosted the battery on this phone. It is backed by a 3,540mAh non-removable battery and also supports QuickCharge 3.0 and Qi wireless charging.

Sony has yet to reveal the final price for the XZ2 Premium, but expect it to be more than the XZ2.

Sony dubs its new Xperia XZ2 "ultimate creation machine", thanks to its new camera technology. The Xperia XZ2 Premium is a comprehensive upgrade to the Xperia XZ2 in nearly all the departments.

TechRadar spoke to Sony, who confirmed that the phone may not be available in the UAE, Saudi and the rest of the Middle East - although it's yet to rule out its arrival completely.
