Second Palestinian Journalist Dies from Israeli Bullets in Gaza Strip

Ahead of today's UN Security Council at 5:00 P.M. (Israel time), and as the demonstrations along the Gaza-Israel fence are expected to continue, B'Tselem Executive Director Hagai El-Ad sent UN Secretary-General António Guterres a letter listing the names of the 35 Palestinians protestors shot to death by Israeli forces in Gaza in recent weeks, four of whom were minors.

Palestinian journalist Ahmed Abu Hussein who was shot by an Israeli sniper as he covered the Great March Of Return and died of his wounds. He was actually transferred on Monday 16/4 to the Ramallah Medical Complex, where they found that he is suffering from toxemia, he underwent another surgery, his health was improved until Thursday 18/04, were his health status deteriorated, he was transferred to the Israeli Hospital Tel Hashomer, were they discovered he has a brain damage that led to Ahmed's coma, until about 4:15 pm on Wednesday 25/4 where he was declared dead.

In spite of the severity of his situation, Israel had at first denied Abu Hussein permission to be transported to the occupied West Bank for treatment.

Mr Hussein was covering the weekly massive protests organized by Hamas, the group that controls Gaza.

Since the rallies began on March 30, at least 41 Palestinian demonstrators - including five children - have been killed by cross-border Israeli gunfire, according to ministry figures.


Thousands of mourners Thursday took part in the funeral procession of journalist Ahmad Abu Hussein, who was shot by Israeli forces on the eastern border of the Gaza Strip on April 13.

Mr Hussein worked for Radio Shaab, a well-known radio station seen as close to the left-wing Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) party, as well as being a photographer for a local news agency.

The number of Palestinians recently injured by Israeli army gunfire along the Gaza Strip's eastern border over joining peaceful rallies and have had to have limbs amputated raised to 21 people, Palestinian ministry of health announced on Thursday evening.

Israel has faced global condemnation for its response to Palestinian demonstrations at the border.
