Nikki Haley says more sanctions against Russian Federation coming as soon as Monday

Russia may have tampered with the site of an alleged chemical weapons attack in Douma, Syria., the US envoy to the global watchdog said Monday, but Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has denied allegations of interference.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview to the BBC said: "I can guarantee that Russia has not tampered with the site".

The United States, Britain and France launched 105 missiles targeting what the USA said were chemical weapon facilities in Syria as a direct retaliation for the gas attack on April 7.

Global inspectors are trying to reach the site in Douma, near Damascus.

Inspectors from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) went to Syria last week to inspect the Douma site but have yet to gain access to the town, which is now under government control after the rebels withdrew. Footage of young victims foaming at the mouth and weeping in agony helped to thrust Syria's civil war - in which half a million people have been killed in the past seven years - to the forefront of world concern again. The OPCW team is tasked with determining whether banned substances were used in the Douma attack, a charge that both Syria and its ally Russian Federation vehemently denied.

NATO's East Stratcom Task Force reported, "Immediately after the reports of a suspected chemical attack in Syrian Douma appeared, Russian Federation reignited its disinformation campaign on the use of chemical weapons in Syria".

Assad told a group of visiting Russian lawmakers that the strikes were accompanied by a campaign of "lies and misinformation" against Syria and Russia in the U.N. Security Council.

Ryabkov said that Russia's lower house of parliament is considering legislation that would give the Kremlin the power to restrict United States imports, RIA reported.

A day after the U.S., Britain and France bombarded sites they said were linked to a chemical weapons program, Syrian President Bashar Assad appeared briefly on state TV, seemingly unfazed by the military action - and even reportedly in high spirits.

"Russian sanctions will be coming down", Haley said during a CBS interview on Sunday.

"We of course know that our work in Syria is not done", she said.

The Russian Defense Ministry on Friday accused Britain of staging a fake chemical attack in the Syrian town of Douma last weekend, a bold charge that comes amid Moscow's stern warnings to the West against striking Syria.

The Associated Press reported late Monday (Thailand time) that its journalists visited Douma on a government-approved media trip, and spoke to residents who described a terrifying gas attack on April 7.

"So I think everyone is going to be feeling it at this point".

"The European Union will continue to consider further restrictive measures against Syria as long as the repression continues", they said in a statement after their talks.

The other two were suspected chemical weapons facilities at Him Shinshar near Homs.

The Western leaders were also facing scrutiny at home over their actions. In France, the conservatives, the far-left and the far-right have all criticised the strikes.
