Apple Music's Head Of Hip Hop Programming Carl Chery Leaving For Spotify

This person is no other than the Head of Artist Curation for hip hop, Carl Chery. Chery was also a former music journalist for SOHH.com, XXL and BET. If the deal does go through, it's presumed that Chery may be filling the vacancy left by Tuma Basa, who left Spotify as its global programming head of hip-hop and curator for the RapCaviar playlist, which has already amassed 9 million followers and even spawned live events. It comes at an interesting time as Apple Music recently announced the new lead for Apple Music as Oliver Schusser.

"In the early days at Spotify, we worked around the mantra of 'better than piracy.' At Soundtrack we are facing a similar challenge, educating and inspiring business users to do the right thing, and to start using Soundtrack instead of B2C services or rogue B2B services", said Liffgarden, the company's chairman & co-founder.

With the departure of Chery, Apple Music appears to be continuously shuffling its team. Apple Music is now the second in the streaming top, but Spotify is the real ruler.

On April 24, at an event in New York, Spotify could take a leap in its business structure with the announcement of its first physical product: a player designed for the vehicle.

Leading digital music streaming company Spotify has revealed that it has acquired music licensing platform Loudr in the aim of improving its operations in regard to licensing and royalty payments.

The company has also reportedly been developing some type of branded hardware.

Carl Chery leaves Apple Music to join Spotify.
