Ant McPartlin hit with fine and ban after drink-driving incident

His mother was in the vehicle with him at the time of the crash and the barrister told the district judge the incident was down to "a brief relapse unbeknownst to his passenger".

He responded "guilty" to a single charge of driving while over the limit.

The 42-year-old was twice over the legal alcohol limit when he was involved in a three-car crash in London on March 18.

His ban can be reduced to 15 months if he completes a drink-drive re-education programme.

When he was breathalysed by police he was found to have 75mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath - the legal limit is 35 mcg.

District judge Barbara Barnes told McPartlin "you are a well-known and successful entertainer", whose weekly income is around £130,000 a week. He is now undergoing treatment for his alcohol issues.

The judge described McPartlin's previous "exemplary character" adding: "I think it will have quite an impact on you to know you're no longer a man of good character".

The court was told that that Mr McPartlin was receiving treatment for "alcohol and emotional issues".

McPartlin's barrister Liam Walker said of his client to the court: 'He is sorry, but not sorry because he is here. He also said that he felt "ashamed and mortified" for what he'd done. He said that he would be getting specialist help to "ensure that nothing of this nature happens again".

"I accept full culpability for this and wish to apologise to all those concerned".

It's also been confirmed that Dec will be presenting Britain's Got Talent alone when the live shows air later this year - although Ant will still feature in its pre-recorded auditions.
