65th National Awards: Sridevi wins for 'Mom', regional cinema scores big

The National Film Award winners reacted with surprise and elation as their name was announced today but it came as a bitter-sweet moment for the family members of Sridevi, who was named the best actress posthumously for her role in "Mom".

Mainstream blockbuster "Baahubali: The Conclusion" won national award for best popular film providing wholesome entertainment, besides being named for special effects and action direction. It feels wonderful to know that the whole country thought my role in Newton was one of my best and to win the Special Mention Award at the highest film award in India is just exhilarating. On the other hand, "To Let" directed by Prema Chezhiyan was awarded the Best Tamil film of 2017.

"I am absolutely delighted", Pankaj, who has been acknowledged for his spectacular role as a CRPF officer in the film that also starred Rajkummar Rao, said in a statement.

Her "Mom" co-star, Pakistani actor Adnan Siddiqui, told PTI, "I am not surprised, she deserved more".

Actor Taapsee Pannu, who had a special appearance in "Ghazi" said it was "ecstatic" that the film had won the best Telugu film award. "She deserves it. I am really happy, it's a great news for me because it was our film".

The announcement of the prestigious 65th National Awards have already begun and the award ceremony for the same will be held on May 3. Newton also fetched a Special Mention Award for Pankaj Tripathi. It was also received very warmly in various global film festivals.

Ganesh Acharya won the choreography award for the Hindi film "Toilet: Ek Prem Katha".

"I just heard about it". Riddhi Sen won best actor for "Nagarkirtan". Marathi Movie "Dhappa" was awarded the Nargis Dutt Award For Best Feature Film On National Integration. Supporting actor Pankaj Tripathi also won a special mention for his work in the film.

Veteran singer K J Yesudas was recognised as the best male singer for his song "Poy Maranja Kalam" in the Malayalam film "Viswasapoorva M Mansoor", while the best female singer went to Shashaa Tirupati for the song "Vaan" for "Kaatru Veliyidai".
