Cousins, Keenum on the move as National Football League market revs up

Cousins will meet Wednesday with the Vikings once the new league year begins, his agent Mike McCartney said Tuesday.

In case you missed it, free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins is indeed heading to the Minnesota Vikings.

If Cousins does sign with the Vikings, and by all indications, he will, Cousins will become the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.

Since shredding his knee in 2016 training camp, he has played in just one game (and thrown two passes), last year.

While Cousins represents an upgrade from what Case Keenum provides on a yearly basis, he's still very dependent on his supporting cast in order to put up the gaudy stats that will match his contract's expectations. Running back Devontae Booker caught the third-most passes for the Broncos last season with 30 receptions for 275 yards. He also sneakily adds something as a runner, with 13 rushing scores over those three seasons. However, NFL Media reported Tuesday that Brees will get a two-year, $50 million deal to return to New Orleans. Wilson eventually signed a four-year, $87.6 million extension but it wasn't fully guaranteed.

"I haven't had the chance to pick where I'm going to play since 2007 when I chose to go to Michigan State, so I'm looking forward to that opportunity", Cousins said in Minnesota the week of the Super Bowl during an appearance on SiriusXM satellite radio. While Bridgewater was healthy enough to be on the Vikings roster a year ago, the consistent play of Case Keenum kept the former first round pick on the sidelines.

The landmark deal will make Cousins the highest-paid quarterback in the league. "It is about winning, and that's what I want more than anything, so I'm going to be willing to make sacrifices or do what has to be done to make sure I'm in the best possible position to win, and that's what the focus is going to be".

Falcons: Atlanta signed offensive lineman Austin Pasztor and cornerback Leon McFadden to one-year extensions one day before the backups would have become unrestricted free agents. He threw for more than 4,000 yards per season, and led the Redskins to the playoffs in 2015. It's time they start fresh at quarterback and bring in a young gunslinger that is ready to start come Week 1.

He has age on his side (like most players on the Jets' roster), as he doesn't turn 26 until November. The Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos and New York Jets were also in the mix for Cousins' services.

Meanwhile, Drew Brees is set to end one of the finest careers in National Football League history with the team where he made his name.

The move comes nearly immediately after it was reported that quarterback Case Keenum intends to sign with the Denver Broncos at the official beginning of free agency Wednesday. Paul Richardson, a University of Colorado alum, was a candidate to play in Denver before he signed a 5-year, $40 million deal with the Redskins.
