30 killed in fresh Plateau attacks

It will recalled that last Thursday, gunmen suspected to be herdsmen killed five persons in Dantako and Nzharuvo communities in Miango district of Bassa local government area of Plateau.

Few days after the president left Plateau State after a two-day visit to commiserate with people of the state over some killings and destruction of property, more deaths have been recorded.

Matthias Tyopev, spokesman of Plateau police command, confirmed the attack but could not give details.

The villages attacked were Dundu and Hirshi, both in Bassa Local Government Area. The attack, Naija News understands, happened on the night of Monday 12th March 2018. "As I speak with you, a deputy commissioner of police, DCP Taiwo Jebiyisu, in charge of Department of Operations is on his way to the scene".

"There was an attack yesterday (Monday) in Bassa; as such, the commissioner of police, Plateau state command, has directed the DCP Taiwo Jebiyisu, a deputy commissioner of police in charge of the department of operations, to go to the scene of crime for an on-the-spot assessment", he said.

"I can not authoritatively confirm to you the casualty rate".

He said residents have since fled the community.

During a visit to Plateau state, President Muhammadu Buhari assured the public of the Federal Government's commitment to ensure Peace Building Agency has the support it needs, in its effort to arrest the vicious cycle of violence.

Gulu expressed sadness that the attacks came on a day slated for the mass burial of those killed last week.
