Turkish T129 attack helicopter shot down in Afrin

Ankara Two Turkish Armed Forces personnel were killed when an attack helicopter crashed in northwestern Syria's Afrin during the ongoing Operation Olive Branch on February 10, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said, Hurryiet reports. "The perpetrators will pay a heavy price", Erdogan said at the provincial meeting of the Justice and Development party in Istanbul.

The statement by the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) added that at least 28 PKK-linked People's Protection Units (YPG), Daesh and KCK terrorists were "neutralized", raising the total number of neutralized terrorists to 1141 on the 22nd day of the operation. However, neither Turkey's North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies nor the Syrian government's main ally, Russia, has taken direct action against Turkey for the attacks on Syrian soil. However, in a posting on Twitter, Mustefa Bali, spokesman for the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces dominated by the YPG, said a helicopter had been hit in the Rajo area of northwest Afrin.

According to Hevi Mustafa, a Kurdish official and top member of Afrin's local government, the Turkish incursion has killed 160 people, including 26 children and 17 women, and displaced 60,000 people.

British-based monitor group, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, reports the Turkish raids on Friday killed seven YPG fighters and two civilians.

Flag-wrapped coffin of Ahmet Bayram, a Turkish soldier who was killed during the military operation against Syria's Afrin region, is carried by honour guards during his funeral ceremony in Hatay, Turkey February 4, 2018. None of the YPG´s former allies have provided military support to counter Turkish air and ground attacks.

The operation in Afrin, dubbed The Olive Branch, has led to Washington's ire. Turkish forces have been leading a counteroffensive against Kurdish militias since late January.
