Trump Asks For Due Process As Staffers Resign Amid Abuse Allegations

Ms Hicks, perhaps Mr Trump's most trusted aide, had helped craft the response to the scandal as White House communications director despite being romantically involved with Mr Porter. But the aftershocks of his resignation reverberated amid concerns about his access to classified information. A photo also circulated of one of his accusers with a black eye that Porter allegedly gave her.

Over the last few days, two White House staffers have stepped down under a cloud of suspicion involving claims of domestic abuse.

"Before we were contacted by the media, we learned last night that there were allegations", White House spokesman Raj Shah said in a statement Friday. Porter denies the allegations against him. Porter to be fired 40 minutes after learning of the charges against him, an assertion that other officials disputed. But his frustration with Kelly has grown in recent weeks.

In the midst of the upheaval, the president tweeted, "Peoples lives are being shattered and destroyed by a mere allegation".

"It's a, obviously, tough time for him". There is no sense the chief of staff's departure is imminent, according to two people familiar with the situation.

The White House declined to comment Wednesday when asked about Kelly's knowledge of the allegations against Porter.

Toni Van Pelt, head of the National Organization for Women, was more direct.

The eldest Trump daughter, who serves as an adviser to the President, also issued a defense of her former employee.

"White House chief of staff John Kelly must resign", said Van Pelt. Porter's security clearance, which he needed in the crucial job of staff secretary who controls the daily paper flow to the President's desk.

They were reportedly married for more than two years. She did not report the incidents due to her then husband's connections to law enforcement.

Jennifer Willoughby was Rob Porter's second wife. A senior administration official insisted it was unclear whether the Federal Bureau of Investigation gave a detailed account of the accusations discovered during Porter's background check.

Both men have denied the allegations.

"(Trump) thinks it's a good thing that women are coming forward, but he also feels strongly that a mere allegation shouldn't determine the course", she said. If you see a woman who might be in danger, call 911. "You matter. You are enough". I'm not going to sit around and talk about the management of the West Wing. McGahn told Kelly, as CBS News' Arden Farhi has reported, that Porter's ex-wives were saying things about Porter but Porter was denying the claims.

But among some aides, that semblance of confidence has been eroded. "In this crowd it was okay to be overly aggressive, or burdened with a sketchy background, just as long as you were truly useful to the President and didn't upstage him", he continued before ticking off Trump acolytes known of their bulling ways including, Steve Bannon, Corey Lewandowski, Paul Manafort, Michael Flynn and Sebastian Gorka.
