President Trump, Kim Jong Un lookalikes at Olympics 'want peace'

In January 1968, Kim Yo Jong's grandfather, founding North Korean president Kim Il Sung, sent a squad of North Korean commandos to Seoul who tried unsuccessfully to kill then-president Park Chung-hee. Kim Yo Jong offered an invitation from her brother for Moon to visit the North, in the strongest sign yet of an expanding diplomatic opening opposed by the U.S. Forty-six members of its crew were killed in an attack a South Korean, U.K. and US investigation showed was carried out by the North.

President Moon Jae-in said at a carefully planned dinner to honor Kim Yong Nam, the North Korean president's sister, and Vice President Mike Pence that he hoped the Winter Olympics would be remembered as the "day peace began".

Now, with an invitation to meet the North's dictator in Pyongyang, personally delivered on the sidelines of the Pyeongchang Olympics by that dictator's sister during the first-ever peacetime visit to the South by a member of the North Korean ruling family, Moon may be on the brink of a legacy-defining moment.

Moon's desire to engage North Korea was in contrast to his U.S. ally.

The only people in the VIP box who didn't stand during the Korean team's entrance were Mike Pence, the US vice president, and Fred Warmbier, father of Otto Warmbier, the American student who died shortly after being released from North Korean custody, The Washington Post's Anna Fifield reported.

"Oh my god they're coming in right next to us!" said one spectator as they filed in, carrying blue bags and followed by a scrum of photo journalists and excited onlookers.

The lunch meeting at the Blue House, which was broadcast live on South Korean TV, showed Moon sat in front of Kim Yo-jong, rather than Kim Yong-nam, technically the senior-most official present in the meeting being the ceremonial head of state. It was not immediately known what they said, but all of them were smiling.

Dr Petrov said the timing of the handshake was important with the United States and South Korea's annual joint military exercises, postponed due to the Winter Olympic Games and set to go ahead in February and March.

There is still plenty of tension between the US and North Korea because the dictatorship nation continues to test nuclear weapons.

North Korea's parade on Thursday was held to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the country's military, and featured hundreds of choreographed soldiers marching in formation, rows of missiles and lines of tanks.

But in their meeting Saturday, the South Korean president also asked North Korea to be amenable to talks with the United States, telling Kim Yo Jong that it was "urgent" for Pyongyang and Washington to start resolving their differences.

The two impersonators said they got along well together. "[The athletes] will be thinking about how they're so grateful that the party is giving them the opportunity to participate in training and games overseas".

North Korea is under a heavy United Nations sanctions regime which was originally targeted at stopping the proliferation of arms and nuclear and missile technologies, but has become more all-encompassing after its accelerated missile testing.

Later, the North Korean cheerleaders responded by singing "We are one!", swaying from side to side in a perfectly choreographed display of unity and discipline.

Pence stood to welcome the USA athletes as the Korean pop hit Gangnam Style blared around the stadium, sparking the "Horse Dance" in the crowd and among the volunteers.

"All the South Korean public are going to need is one or two moments, what we'd call a Hallmark moment, with the two Koreas and it's going to dispel a lot of the negative feelings and negative tension the North has gotten because they're participating".
