Peyton Manning to be honorary pace auto driver for Daytona 500

This year is the 60th Daytona 500, the first of which was held in 1959.

Alex Bowman, who replaced Earnhardt in the number 88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, and Denny Hamlin are slated to start on the front row.

"Serving as the Honorary Pace Car Driver will be a truly unique and exciting experience", Manning told NASCAR. "I'm really looking forward to race day", Manning said Tuesday. The remaining line-up will be determined after Thursday's Cam-Am Duels, 60-lap qualifying race.

As the honorary pace auto driver, Manning will lead the field driving a Toyota Camry XSE before the first lap of NASCAR's season-opening race.

The Daytona 500 is the season-opening race for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

Manning, 41, spent 17 seasons playing in the National Football League after being drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in 1998.

An NFL legend, Manning, retired from the NFL after leading the Denver Broncos to a Super Bowl championship in 2015.

Manning played 18 seasons in the National Football League, setting career records for passing yards (71,940) and touchdowns and wining five MVP awards. That marked his second Super Bowl title after winning one with the Indianapolis Colts in 2006. Join the Beyond the Flag team!
