MSF reveals sex abuse cases as Oxfam scandal widens

Penny Mordaunt said the charity had "betrayed" the people it was meant to help when it covered up wrongdoing, including allegations of staff's use of underage prostitutes following the Haitian natural disaster in 2010.

MSF- doctors without borders in English- have released figures about sexual harassment complaints to show transparency in the wake of the Oxfam scandal.

The anti-poverty organization has been reeling since the Times of London reported last week that seven former Oxfam staff members who worked in Haiti faced misconduct allegations that included using prostitutes and downloading pornography.

"Hiring Singh, even in an emergency as a short-term consultant, was a serious error and should never have happened".

The charity is under investigation by the Charities Commission for England and Wales.

A spokeswoman for Oxfam said Singh was one of the men fired by the charity in August 2011, following revelations of sexual misconduct while he was working for the charity in Haiti in 2011 following the quake.

Cafod has also reviewed two historical cases of sexual misconduct allegations against other employees, with one yielding no evidence and the other seeing a staff member dismissed.

"The dismissal was not related to sexual misconduct and was not connected to the case in 2011, however, there were allegations of inappropriate behaviour", an Oxfam spokeswoman said.

The staff were based in the country's capital Port-au-Prince in 2010 after a huge natural disaster which killed 220,000 people and left a further 1.5m homeless. The people from Oxfam, who I have travelled with and met in various countries since my first trip to Ethiopia in1997, inspired me with their passion, courage, integrity and compassion.

"Our primary aim was always to root out and take action against those involved and we publicly announced, including to media, both the investigation and the action we took as a result".

"We requested and yesterday received a reference from Oxfam GB headquarters which confirmed the allegations against him", CAFOD director Chris Bain said in a statement.

Days after actress Minnie Driver stood down from her role as an Oxfam ambassador, the Glastonbury Festival founder has maintained he'll stick by the "wonderful" charity.
