After the invitation was conveyed, a Blue House official said local authorities are now planning what message Moon will send to Kim Jong-un, and how he will send it, once the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games wrap up later this month.

The invitation was delivered through his younger sister Kim Yo-jong who met Moon at the presidential palace.

"I am willing to meet with President Moon in the near future", Kim Yo-jong quoted Kim Jong-un as saying, according to presidential spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom.

A delegation of more than 500 North Koreans are attending the Games.

"We have no intention to meet the U.S. side during our visit to South Korea", Jo said in a terse statement reported by state-run news agency KCNA.

Such a summit would be the third of its kind, following meetings between Kim's father, Kim Jong Il, and South Koreans Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-Hyun in 2000 and 2007, each time in Pyongyang.
