India, Oman sign agreement on visa exemption

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Shiva Temple, which is one of the oldest temples in the Gulf region here on Monday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered prayers at one of the oldest Shiva Temples in Muscat on Monday.

To give a fillip to investment and economic development and diversification in India and Oman, Modi said, "To improve the relationship between Oman and India, we have set up many technological and energy-based institutions". Management of Hindu Temple is a voluntary organization representing Banyan Merchant Community in Muscat- the community which has settled in Oman over centuries. Over 20,000 Indian nationals were expected to attend Modi's speech at the Sultan Qaboos Stadium in Bausher on Sunday, Times Of Oman reported. "It is vital and important that the relations between India and other nations stay strong, in terms of investment, agriculture, technology and business". Modi told his audience that India aspired to assume leadership position in Artificial Intelligence, nanotechnology, cyber security and cloud computing.

He also said that Indian diaspora has played an essential role in strengthening these ties.

"Charting out new frontiers in our bilateral relationship, PM @narendramodi led delegation-level talks with Sultan Qaboos of Oman. India accords very high importance to relations with Oman, a key strategic partner in the region", Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted.


Annexure to the MoU on Military Cooperation.

Following the meeting between Modi and Sultan Qaboos, eight agreements were signed between India and Oman.

As he stepped out, enthusiastic crowds greeted the Prime Minister with chants of Modi Modi outside the temple.

During the day, PM Modi met with HH Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmood Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers and HH Sayyid Asa'ad bin Tariq Al Said, Oman's Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs. He laid the foundation stone for the Swaminarayan temple, to be built on 55,000 sqm of land on the Abu Dhabi-Dubai highway, keeping local religious sentiments in mind while making it a place of worship for all manner of Hindus, whatever their chosen deity.
