How Apple Hopes to Eliminate Those Annoying iPhone Bugs

How Apple Hopes to Eliminate Those Annoying iPhone Bugs

Apple will still release iOS 12 in the spring as usual, but the company is allowing its engineers to delay the release of some features so they can instead focus on reliability and performance.

Apple Inc. has reportedly chose to slow down its annual software updates for iOS and macOS and instead will spread out new features over the next two years. "His team will have more time to work on new features and focus on under-the-hood refinements without being tied to a list of new features annually simply so the company can tout a massive year-over-year leap, people familiar with the situation say".

The report adds how iOS 12 aka "Peace" is now under development, and is set to come with a few new features.

Apple is slowing the pace on iOS updates, with the Cupertino firm allegedly opting to get absolutely right a smaller number of changes in its flagship iPhone software.

In other (bigger) news, Apple is now working on a FaceTime update that will finally let you call multiple people at once. Traditionally, Apple has released major iOS updates on an annual cycle.

Bloomberg reports further that Apple plans to make the iPad more desktop-like in 2019, with features like tabbed app shells and multi-window support for single apps being worked on.

According to Bloomberg, however, this is more than just a periodic pause for Apple to catch its metaphorical breath. Apple is also bringing Animoji to FaceTime, allowing iOS users to place a virtual emoji over their face while using the company's video chat platform - a feature Apple should have launched Animoji with.

"This is the biggest leak in history", Jonathan Levin, an author of several book about iOS and Mac OSX's inner workings told reporters at Motherboard. Craig Federighi, Apple's senior VP of software engineering, informed engineers at the company last month of the new strategy.

According to people familiar with the change, Apple will continue to have an annual release, but engineers will focus on features that will be released over the next two years, allowing them to move out features that aren't flawless yet. Previous reports have suggested that some major iOS 12 features have been delayed for the sake of quality. Now, a new report claims, there's a change in strategy. This feature appears likely to appear in iOS 12.

Apple has been planning to concentrate more on quality rather than quantity. According to Bloomberg, you can expect better parental controls with detailed stats for parents, more granular settings for "Do Not Disturb", a new Stocks app and a way to invoke Siri in the iOS search bar.
