Home Intel Republicans Plan to Partition Aides From Dems

A Republican memo, written under the direction of House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes, seen on February 2, 2018.

For now, some Republican committee members deny knowing anything about it, while strongly suggesting the division is the brainchild of the committee's chairman, Devin Nunes, R-California. "But the committee is still salvageable with a new leader", Swalwell, D-Calif., told ABC News' Rick Klein and Jonathan Karl on the "Powerhouse Politics" podcast Wednesday.

Nunes, like President Donald Trump, regularly asserts that news coverage critical of him is fake. He announced he would recuse himself from that investigation a year ago, and his work on the committee culminated recently in a dispute over a GOP memo he spearheaded alleging FBI surveillance abuses.

"Instead, we do a memo".

Nunes has attracted significant scrutiny for his role in the Trump transition team and support for the White House as his committee investigates alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Democrats claim their memo will push back against central allegations of the Republicans' memo.

The version of the memo the Republicans provided to Trump had already been vetted and redacted by the National Security Council and lawyers from the White House Counsel's office. "What's interesting is now they're very interested in what the DOJ and Federal Bureau of Investigation have to say because Christopher Wray uncharacteristically made a public statement and said that their memo was dangerously reckless", Swalwell said.

On Thursday, CBS News reported that Nunes plans to construct a physical partition to separate Republican staffers on the House Intelligence Committee from their Democratic counterparts. "And now the Democrats are doing their memo, and we're in memo hell".

Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, was lambasted on Monday by Trump as "a leaker and a liar". "I don't know what they're trying to do one way or the other".
