Gigi Hadid hits back at body shamers

The 22-year-old model took to Twitter following a hectic day at NY fashion week, (after walking for Jeremy Scott and Bottega Veneta) to defend her physique following criticism of her "too skinny" frame.

Nevertheless, in her final post, Hadid stated she was unwilling to explain how her body looks to other people any longer, even though, ironically, she wrote a 1000-word essay on precisely that topic.

Model-of-the-moment Gigi Hadid loves the skin she's in and has no time for being body shamed.

The supermodel was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease, which is also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis.

Gigi Hadid claps back at cyberbullies with a series of tweets that revealed her autoimmune condition and asking for fans to be more empathetic online.

The NHS says Hashimoto's thryroiditis can "take months or years" to be diagnosed and is "caused by the immune system attacking the thyroid gland, making it swell and become damaged".

She then defiantly added: 'I may be "too skinny" for you, honestly this skinny isn't what I want to be...'

She explained that she has been "properly medicated" the past several years and also took part in a "holistic medical trial" that helped balance her thyroid.

She continued writing to her 8.51 million followers: "Although stress & excessive travel can also affect the body, I have always eaten the same, my body just handles it differently now that my health is better".

"I will not further explain the way my body looks, just as anyone, with a body type that doesn't suit ur "beauty" expectation, shouldn't have to". "It's now been two years since taking the medication for it, so for the [Victoria's Secret] show I didn't want to lose any more weight".

She urged social media users to be nicer to one another, saying, "Use your energy to lift those that you admire rather than be cruel to those u don't".

Hadid first opened up about her health battles in 2016, telling ELLE magazine "my metabolism actually changed like insane this year".

Gigi Hadid attends the Gigi Hadid X Maybelline party held at "Hotel Gigi" on November 7, 2017 in London, England.
