Gas prices 6 cents higher but will start to decline

According to GasBuddy, gas prices in Columbia have fallen 4.5 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.32 a gallon.

The last time local prices were this high was in 2014 when they averaged $3.35, the price-tracking website GasBuddy.com reported.

An amount that according to the national gas price tracker "GasBuddy" is expected to increase.

Las Vegas- $2.73/g, up 3.3 cents per gallon from last week's $2.70/g.

"Gas prices have the potential to drop 10 to 15 cents, based on what happened last week", AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said Monday. Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg told the Associated Press that the increase is due to higher crude oil costs. "Motorists filling up in the Midwest, South and East Coast are most likely to see the positive change at the pump", said AAA Kansas' Haugh. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, prices began to shift midway through last week with gains in both domestic production and inventory. "Expect volatility at the pump as these forces collide".

Here's some positive news for your Monday morning: Gas prices are on the way down, falling both in IL and across the US, according to a new GasBuddy analysis.

Phoenix- $2.35/g, up 0.3 cents per gallon from last week's $2.35/g. The so-called Wawa effect - by which Wawa opens a new store and sells gas cheap, forcing everyone around them to drop their prices too - continued to keep prices in the low $2.40s at nine surrounding stations on State Road 7, West Copans Road and West Atlantic Boulevard.
