#FuelScarcity: FG Orders NNPC To Clear Queues In Filling Stations Before Sunday

The minister said for the queues to disappear, the government would have to address fundamental policy issues, especially in the area of pricing.

He added that the Corporation made a decision to recognize BOVAS and its Managing Director, Mrs. Victoria Samson, for helping the government make life easy for Nigerians by selling petrol at the regulated price.

"So he submitted his report and the National Economic Council has a committee that has been interfacing with all revenue generating agencies of the federal government under the chairmanship of the governor of Gombe State".

Kachikwu gave the directive at a world news conference to intimate journalists on the upcoming global oil and gas conference and exhibition tagged the Nigerian worldwide Petroleum Summit (NIPS).

According to him, NEC has set up a committee headed by the Gombe State governor, Ibrahim Dakwambo, which will interact with NNPC with a view to determining the correct price for PMS, considering the price of the product in countries bordering Nigeria.

NNPC is taking the action to "increase supply and replenish strategic reserves", and companies participating in a fuel swap program may get extra volumes of crude, he said.

The minister said that most oil producing countries were already working internally to ensure that they get the best margins from their businesses.

Ibe Kachikwu, minister of state for petroleum resources, says the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) should "do whatever it takes" to end petrol queues in Abuja before Sunday. We've instructed the NNPC to do whatever it takes to ensure that I do not bring visitors here next week and they will experience fuel queues.

According to a statement in Abuja, Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mr. Maikanti Baru, gave this charge in Abuja while presenting a commendation letter to the Managing Director of BOVAS and Company Limited, an Ibadan-based petroleum marketing company, for consistently selling petrol at the approved price of N145 per litre. "I haven't gone round today but yesterday when I went round in the afternoon, there was a huge improvement on the situation".

"That is the directive I will be sending to the NNPC and let them work night and day to put a lot more efforts in trying to do this, " Kachikwu said.

"This is because the fuel queue issue is both a logistics and a policy issue".

Secretary-General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo, OPEC and non-OPEC ministers are among industry heavyweights expected at Nigeria's biggest oil industry event this year tagged the Nigeria International Petroleum Summit (NIPS). "The summit will showcase many Nigerian talents that are hidden and most multinationals will be allowed to showcase their talents", he said.
