Five Nights At Freddy's movie lands Home Alone director

American filmmaker Chris Columbus has been confirmed to direct the film adaptation of the popular independent horror video game "Five Nights at Freddy's". According to the outlet, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets director Christopher Columbus is set to write and direct the film for the studio.

For those of you who don't know, Five Nights at Freddy's is a series of horror games produced exclusively by Cawthorn, which saw tremendous success on PC and mobile. As reported by Deadline and the Blumhouse Productions Twitter account, Columbus will write, direct and co-produce the movie.

The horror game sensation does not have any kind of release time frame for its movie adaptation yet, but Columbus joining the project is a significant step for a film that has been in the works for almost three years. The company acquired the rights to the series previous year, after it failed to materialize at New Line. The adaptation of Scott Cawthon's video game has been at the indie studio for nearly a year now, but is now finally moving forward. You play as a night security guard at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, a family restaurant where animatronic animal characters roam the establishment and interact with guests. Till date, the franchise includes a series of bestselling novels and top-performing retail merchandise lines. "Columbus" direction of Adam Sandler's video game inspired Pixels in 2015 makes him the ideal candidate for Five Nights. This creates an interesting situation for Blumhouse, which is known for its terrifying R-rated fare. Pixels? Rent? Bicentennial Man (OK, I have some affection for that movie)? On the other hand, given how seasoned this new team is, it's very possible the movie could offer something totally new.
