Facebook Dismisses Dislike Button Rumors, Quietly Tests New Button

To step up to its commitment of driving more meaningful interaction on its platform, Facebook is now testing a downvote button.

The download button will help Facebook understand which comments on a post are "offensive", "misleading", or "off topic" as these options come just after the users tap the button available below a particular comment.

Facebook has clarified that the feature that it is testing is not a dislike button.

According to news site Tech Crunch, Facebook is concerned with giving people a chance to make their opinions on the comments to public page posts matter. "This is running for a small set of people in the USA only", a Facebook spokesperson told MSN News.

But of course, the prime objective behind bringing the downvote button is not to enhance user engagements.

In 2015, Facebook Design Chief Julie Zhuo said she had heard users complain about only having the ability to "like" a comment. But Facebook has ultimately preferred the downvote button to give its users to mark comments that aren't completely fitting with a post.

However, it does not affect the visibility of the post for other people and does not affect its ranking in the news feed.

If we talk more about this feature, Facebook has rolled out this feature to over 5% of the users in the United States for Android platform. As mentioned, Reddit employs an upvoting and downvoting system, but that has shown mixed results, and some communities even turn the feature off altogether to prevent brigades of downvoters ganging up on a user.

Facebook is the most popular social media site on planet Earth.

"W$3 e are not testing a dislike button".

The feature is not at all the "Dislike" button many people have wanted Facebook to implement. The giant might release the same update to other regions before hitting to global markets.
