Couple Sells Everything, Buys Boat That Then Sinks

"It's just floating away and there's nothing I can do", recalled Walsh. "Everybody gave us a nice farewell off the docks", Broadwell said.

Tanner Broadwell, 26, and Nikki Walsh, 24, did what many dream of doing: They quit their jobs, sold everything, and bought a boat to sail around the world.

Tanner Broadwell and Nikki Walsh sold about $5,000 in possessions, including a vehicle, to buy the boat, and saved another $5,000 for repairs to the boat and supplies to travel to the Caribbean, USA Today reported.

They are now staying at a cheap hotel, thanks to Broadwell's mother.

Broadwell said Walsh, who was helping him navigate the boat with a light, was almost thrown from the deck. They said their goodbyes on Tuesday and set sail for Key West.

The couple says it was a traumatic moment, watching the Gulf water rush inside and destroy everything they had.

A couple who abandoned their workaday lives to buy a sailboat for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure instead lost nearly everything when it sank on day two of their journey off Florida.

The couple is now unemployed and they didn't have insurance on the boat - but they said they plan to get another boat.

A ship arrived an hour later, but the water was too shallow for it to approach the capsizing boat.

Ms Walsh said raising the boat alone will cost at least $8600. "I just lost everything I ever owned".

"Most of the work you do goes to your home". All of the possessions they left in the boat were ruined.

With only $90 to their name, they learned that they would have to spend up to $10,000 to retrieve their boat.

Anything extra would go toward a new boat.

In April 2017, they sold everything they had - including Mr Broadwell's SUV and used that money to buy the boat.

Nikki added: 'We can't just give up on our dreams'.
