Captain Marvel, Chaos Walking scribes to write Black Cat/Silver Sable movie

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Chaos Walking scribe Lindsey Beer and Captain Marvel writer Geneva Robertson-Dworet have been tapped to pen Silver & Black, Sony Pictures' upcoming film that centers around Silver Sable and Black Cat.

As Deadline exclusively reported, Gina Prince-Bythewood, who wrote and directed Beyond the Lights and created the TV series Shots Fired, will direct the comic book movie. The duo will take over writing duties from director Gina Prince-Bythewood, who penned the prior draft, and Thor: Ragnarok's Chris Yost and Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy, who worked on earlier drafts of the film. Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal will produce Silver and Black. For those unfamiliar with the slightly lesser known characters from the Spider-Man Universe, Silver Sable is a mercenary and runs a company who hunts war criminals. Black Cat, on the other hand, is the daughter of the world-renowned cat burglar Walter Hardy, and trained herself in multiple different fighting styles and acrobatics in order to follow in his footsteps.

Robertson-Dworet worked on Captain Marvel, which is now in production for Marvel Studios, and the Alicia Vikander Tomb Raider reboot set to premiere later this year.

Silver & Black is set for a February 8, 2019 release.

Robertson-Dworet previously worked on Marvel Studios's Captain Marvel as well as the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot, while Beer was part of Paramount's Transformers writing room and worked on the upcoming King Kong vs. Godzilla as well as Quentin Tarantino's proposed Star Trek film. Portrayed by actress Felicity Jones, there was clearly a plan for that character before Sony abandoned that iteration of Spider-Man.

Sony's Silver & Black film has slowly but surely managed to come together in recent months. The film was previously thought to be headed into production next month, with casting expected to be announced relatively quickly.

Silver & Black, one of several upcoming projects in the Spider-Man spinoff category, has officially enlisted two additional screenwriters for the task of reworking the script just in time for production. Let us know in comments below.
