At least 3 reportedly shot outside NSA Headquarters

A shooting erupted Wednesday outside the suburban Washington headquarters of the National Security Agency, a secretive intelligence organisation responsible for global United States electronic eavesdropping, leaving at least one person injured, officials said.

The agency said the incident took place at a vehicle gate.

The FBI said it was sending personnel to the scene.

The NBC News report said that a man in handcuffs could be seen sitting on the ground not far from the SUV.

Footage from the incident on CNN showed, what appeared to be a black SUV being stopped at the security barrier.

White House officials said that President Donald Trump was briefed on the shooting.

'Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone that has been affected. A suspect is being held in custody, The Associated Press reported.

An NSA spokesman told local media the area outside America's electronic espionage agency was now secure after a "security incident".

@AACoFD is assisting Fort Meade Fire Department with an incident at NSA. "The situation is under control and there's no ongoing security or safety threat".

Police are investigating the incident. "More information will be released as it becomes available".

A spokesman at Fort Meade, about 30 miles (48 km) northeast of Washington, said he could not confirm that a shooting has occurred or that a vehicle was at the gate.

In March 2015, two people tried to drive their sports utility vehicle through the NSA's heavily guarded gate.
