Arvinder Singh Lovely returns to Congress

Former Delhi education minister Arvinder Singh Lovely on Saturday rejoined the Congress just nine months after he left the party ahead of MCD polls past year and joined the rival Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP).

Commenting on his sudden decision of joining back his old party, the Congress leader said that he was ideologically a misfit in the BJP. Arvinder Singh joined BJP from Congress nine months ago.

Dikshit too welcomed Lovely's return to the Congress fold. Congress leader Ajay Maken confirmed the news.

Last year, after leaving the Congress, Lovely had accused Ajay Maken that after becoming the state president he is running the party and ignoring senior leaders, his self-esteem caused him injury, due to which the Left the party (Congress). Lovely was an education minister in Sheila Dikshit-led Delhi government.

Lovely had quit the party amid dissatisfaction among a section of the Delhi Congress with the way Maken distributed tickets for the civic body elections.

The Congress leader was a key man for the party in the April 23 MCD polls and its plans of returning to Delhi's political landscape after a humiliating defeat in 2015 when it failed to win a single seat.

Also, the Congress had faced a drubbing at the hands of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the 2015 Delhi assembly elections.

Rahul's immediate task is to end factionalism in the party units in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, where leaders believe that Congress stands a good chance to defeat the BJP in the year-end Assembly elections. Now the party's social media head, Kanth said people like "Lovely" were hungry for power. His one time mentor and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said that she is happy at Mr. "Lovely is a classic example", Kanth said.
