Amazon bids goodbye to invites, brings Echo speakers offline

The Echo speakers are priced between Rs 4500 and Rs 15000 - the Echo Dot costs Rs 4499, the Echo costs Rs 9999 and the Echo Plus costs Rs 14999. According to the Amazon, the Indian consumers now have access to over 12,000 skills on the Echo smart speakers.

Echo smart speakers are voice-controlled and have been created to always be ready to take instructions from the users. This new Alexa skill supports all Canary devices; with it, device owners can say something like, "Alexa, show me Camera Name" to pull up a video feed on their preferred device. These features have already been available to many users across the country, but soon the broader rollout will start.

The feature, called 'Your Voice, ' can be set up by saying the following phrase to Amazon's voice-activated assistant, "Alexa, who am I?" Months after its initial launch in India, Amazon has updated its digital assistant Alexa to introduce "Individual Voice Profiles" and "Drop-in" feature for its Echo devices.

The Echo works by constantly listening for the "wake word" - either "Alexa" or "Amazon" by default - and then records your voice and transfers it to a processor for analysis so that it can fulfil requests or answer questions. In the near future, developers are gearing up to add more skills to enable users to perform activities like - order food, call a taxi, control lights and more. Now, Amazon has opened up the sale of its Echo speakers to all customers, so you can buy one now without using an invite. But, that's not the scenario any longer. It will ask who you are, and if the Echo device is registered under your account, your profile should be listed there. Gururaj also added, "We are excited to make Alexa and our Echo devices available for all customers, and we can't wait to hear about their experiences". The Echo speakers will also be available at Amazon devices kiosks in Bengaluru and Mumbai, and over 350 offline retail outlets across 20 cities in India. "Since Alexa runs in the cloud, she is always getting smarter - the Alexa experience in India continues to evolve with new features, even better speech recognition, new localised skills, expanded music selection, and more".
