White House doctor declares Trump 'in excellent health'

Unites States President Donald Trump faced a barrage of questions about claims that he referred to the immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and African countries as "s***holes" in an immigration meeting at the White House.

The African Ambassadors issued the statement late on Friday following an emergency meeting after Mr. Trump used vulgar language to reject an immigration Bill, asking why the USA would take in more people from Haiti and "s***hole countries" in Africa.

Trump denies he said anything derogatory during a bipartisan immigration meeting Thursday and denies saying he wanted Haitians out of the country.

Richard Blumenthal, a Democratic senator, said Trump's comment "smacks of blatant racism, the most odious and insidious racism masquerading poorly as immigration policy", while the United Nations said "there is no other word one can use but "racist" to describe his outburst.

The president later said of his controversial remarks on Twitter that "The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used".

"Like all countries, Haiti is a collection of people: it's rich and poor, well-educated and not, good and bad", he said.

Among others, United Nations spokesperson Rupert Coleville said Trump's reported word choice to refer to nations of non-white people is unequivocally "racist".

"The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used".

The president of El Salvador, Salvador Sanchez Ceren, tweeted that Trump's statement struck a blow "to the dignity of the Salvadoran people". What Trump did do, they said, was "call out the imbalance in our current immigration system, which does not protect American workers and our national interest". "There is a serious need for dialogue between the US Administration and the African countries".

After the ceremony at the White House, reporters shouted questions at Mr. Trump, which included, "Mr. President, are you a racist?"

Florida GOP Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen said Trump's comments were "completely unacceptable", telling WPLG-TV in Miami that "if that's not racism, I don't know how you can define it".

While Kalondo said the comments were "clearly" racist, she didn't believe they indicated a shift in the United States stance towards Africa.

"In addition to being insulting to us, more importantly it's quite disrespectful and insulting to the people that we're trying to help and the friends and colleagues that we've made there over the last eight years", Furey said in an interview. "Probably should record future meetings - unfortunately, no trust!"

"He said these hate-filled things and he said them repeatedly", Durbin said.
