Trump Says He'd Be 'Tougher' Than May in Brexit Talks With EU

It came as the US President had a pop at the PM for being weak in Brexit talks and insisting he would have negotiated in a "different and tougher" way.

In his first worldwide interview since assuming office in January 2017, Trump pledged to conclude a trade deal with the United Kingdom.

The government has already indicated it is willing to comply with most of the EU's demands to secure an "implementation period" of about two years after withdrawal in March 2019 to make life easier for businesses, but to the consternation of Brexiteers.

"Trump totally dominates the discussion, leaving the prime minister with five or ten seconds to speak before he interrupts and launches into another monologue", the reports says. He repeated his stance in Davos, Switzerland, when sitting down with British journalist Piers Morgan for an interview aired on Sunday, Xinhua news agency reported.

Morgan asked Trump about how he uses Twitter.

The basic principles are likely to be that Britain must follow "the whole of the EU acquis", or law, but no longer participate in the institutions and decision-making of the bloc, while complying with European Court of Justice (ECJ) rulings and paying into the budget.

"I would have taken a tougher stand in getting out", he adds.

The Plymouth Moor View MP told the Mail on Sunday: "We need to be doing better, or we will pay the price with the electorate".

On the subject of women's rights the president said he had "tremendous respect" for women but it was "going too far" to call him a feminist.

The guest list for Harry and Markle's May 19 wedding at Windsor Castle has not been made public. The prince and Obama have met on several occasions, and Obama gave Harry a rare interview past year that was broadcast on the BBC.

Trump, in contrast, has angered many in Britain with his crackdown on immigration and his climate change policies. Because of legal technicalities, America can't get out of the pact until November 2020.

Earlier this month, he cancelled a trip to London to open a new embassy, saying he did not want to endorse a bad deal agreed by the Obama administration to sell the old one for "peanuts". Yeah, I'd go back in.

"A real danger" is lying ahead of the United Kingdom agreeing to a deal with Brussels, leading to a risk of keeping "us in the European Union in all but name", the Consecutive MP warned in the Sunday Telegraph.

Trump also said he had "predicted" the outcome of the Brexit referendum before it took place in June 2016. And there have been far more records for shrinking polar ice than growing ice, despite what the president claimed.
