Trump Administration Resumes Accepting DACA Renewals Following Court Order

It gives several hundred thousand people from countries struggling with natural disasters or armed conflicts the right to live and work in the U.S. Trump has curtailed it for people from El Salvador, Haiti, Sudan and Nicaragua.

But despite the president's efforts to escalate partisan rancor over immigration negotiations, Sen. And just a reminder - DACA stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.

On Jan. 11, Flake was part of a bipartisan group of senators who pitched Trump a plan that addressed all the concerns he outlined in his tweet. Before there is any hint, suggestion, or consummation of a deal on the DACA Dreamers (and only the Dreamers, all 750,000 of them), certain enforcement measures must be in place, the most important being E-Verify (which assures America employers are hiring only legal workers).

"Six people who agree on something agreed on something", another Senate GOP aide said.

"My ancestors came from countries not almost as prosperous as the one we live in today. If they can't, I will revisit this issue!"

Democrats and Republicans are trying to come to an agreement by the end of next week on what to do about the 690,000 unauthorized immigrants who are losing or set to lose their deportation protections under the DACA program. The deal included increased border security and was a way for Congress to avoid a painful and unnecessary government shutdown. But so far, it has yet to produce a proposal that has the blessing of Congress and the White House - and Trump isn't making negotiations any easier. While it's unclear what the proposal contained, Trump, who apparently saw the provisions, thought it made chain migration and the diversity lottery system "worse". Of course the actual cost of the wall would be much higher - but funding the entirety of the project has not ever been on the table. Vaughn also pointed to the near quadrupling of the illegal immigrant population in the US after a 1986 amnesty for 3 million. The policy actually throws out the visa lottery system.

Other half of the visas would go to people now receiving temporary protected status. Trump has said repeatedly that he wants a bipartisan immigration deal. Can be reduced by up to two years for time in US under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, the Obama-era initiative Trump wants to terminate.

"The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used", Trump wrote in a tweet, referring to a Thursday meeting on immigration reform.

The Trump administration had planned to rescind work permits for the young undocumented immigrants, insisting that it was for Congress to find a solution to the issue of their status.

Once they retake the Congress and the presidency, and if Trump betrays his base on immigration that will definitely happen.

It's now clear Trump's Tuesday statements will have no bearing on what kind of bill he is prepared to sign.

The White House held a bipartisan meeting on Wednesday to discuss immigration reform and attempted to reach a DACA deal. But Democrats are well and truly trapped between their base of supporters who demand DACA legislation be attached to the spending bill and the prospect of being blamed for a government shutdown. As long as Trump humors the voices uninterested in compromise, there will be no deal.
