Security forces dsimantles IED in Srinagar

Srinagar [Jammu and Kashmir], January 13 (NT): The Armed forces on Saturday defused an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) installed near HMT Road in Srinagar of Jammu and Kashmir.

Official sources said that a Road Opening Party (ROP) of security forces noticed an IED planted on main road in the city outskirts.

Bomb disposal squad have already reached the spot and door to door search operation is underway.


Since it was early in the morning besides strike called by separatists, not much traffic was on the road, they said adding traffic has been diverted through Zainakote. Officials said that timely detection averted a major tragedy.

Last week, four policemen were killed in an IED explosion in Sopore.

Interestingly, Additional Director General of Police, Kashmir Munir Khan, while talking to The Kashmir Monitor claimed "no IED was recovered". It was a gunny bag. "If it would have been a (land) mine, how a person could have lifted it?" he said.
