Russian Club Spartak Moscow Spark Racism Row With Offensive Video

Several hours after the initial tweet, Spartak published another post with midfielder Fernando, speaking in Russian, saying that there was "no racism at Spartak, we are friends and a family". Fixes spelling of Luiz Adriano's first name.

Federation Internationale de Football Association president Gianni Infantino insisted racism will not be tolerated during the tournament and said World Cup referees had been given the power to abandon matches should they deem it necessary.

Spartak Moscow have been accused of racism after posting a video of three black players stretching during a warm-weather training session with the caption "see how the chocolate melts in the sun". A message which translated as "see how the chocolates melt in the sun" accompanied the video, followed by three emojis of a smiley face.

Football equality group Kick it Out also criticised Spartak, saying the post "only continues to highlight the prejudices towards black people in Russian Federation".

The same phrase is heard during the video, apparently spoken by Spartak and Russian Federation defender Georgy Dzhikiya.

Spartak Moscow could be in trouble with UEFA after a twitter post from their official account referred to their own black players as 'chocolates'.

"This shows a shocking level of ignorance".

Anti-racism group Kick it Out were quick to condemn Spartak's Twitter post, just months before Russian Federation are due to host the 2018 World Cup. "References like this show how some minorities are seen by some in the country", said Piara Powar.

Spartak player Leonid Mironov is already facing a UEFA racism charge over alleged racist abuse of Liverpool's Rhian Brewster during a Youth League game in December.

In September, Liverpool's Nigeria-born attacker Bobby Adekanye was subjected to racist chants and gestures from Spartak supporters in Moscow during a Uefa Youth League game.
