Qualcomm expands its support for Alexa, Cortana and the Google Assistant

"The platform is created to be a unique end-to-end single-vendor smart speaker solution integrating our unique and powerful processing, as well as proprietary audio technologies engineered for high-resolution audio, networked audio, echo cancellation, beamforming, noise suppression and barge-in wake-word detection".

Qualcomm has announced its plan to make a smart speaker development kit based on the Smart Audio Platform at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018.

In addition, the Smart Audio Platform, which provides the tools for OEMs to build their own smart speaker devices will begin to support Microsoft's Cortana and Google's Android Things in the first half of 2018.

Qualcomm also announced new editions of its Home Hub platform that would now support Android Things, which help developers and OEMs build smart home networks based on Google services. The integration of Qualcomm Aqstic and Microsoft's digital assistant in the mesh platform means voice recognition capabilities will be available for new home networking devices. That's right, Qualcomm now has a kit and reference for smart speakers, where a smart speaker maker can easily make a smart speaker and choose which assistant they want on board.

Besides, Qualcomm's Home Hub platform can be termed as the most powerful platform when it comes to computational efficiency and effectiveness.

The more feature-rich variant of the Qualcomm Home Hub platform for Android Things, based on the Qualcomm SDA624 SoC, adds edge computing capabilities while bringing multimedia, video camera, touch display and more to Android Things devices such as smart displays, home monitoring cameras, smart thermostats and security panels.

Many speaker manufacturers see the opportunity in delivering smart speaker products, but may not have all the technical resource in-house to develop a connected platform. So the kit has everything one could need, plus Qualcomm has a reference design manufacturers could utilize.

Qualcomm Technologies will demonstrate products based on the Home Hub platforms at CES 2018 in Las Vegas, January 9 - 12, Central Hall, 10948.
